Emergencies

When something can't wait

If you think it could be life-threatening, call 911 first. For a dental problem that isn't, call us.

  • Swelling that spreads to your face, eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, a serious blow to the head, or bleeding that won't stop needs emergency care now. Go to an emergency room or call 911. If a tooth is knocked out or broken, call our office right away.

What counts, and what to do first

A long drive changes the plan. If you are more than an hour away and it's getting worse, go to your nearest emergency room.

  1. 01

Step 1: A tooth knocked out or broken

Keep the tooth or the piece, hold it by the crown and not the root, and call us right away.

  2. 02

Step 2: Pain or swelling after surgery that is getting worse

Call us. We tell you what to do next, and whether to come in or go to an emergency room.

  3. 03

Step 3: Bleeding that won't slow

Bite on clean gauze and call us. If it won't stop, go to an emergency room or call 911.

  4. 04

Step 4: A fever or a bad taste days after removal

Call us the same day. It can mean an infection or a dry socket, and Dr. Nair would rather hear early.

We aren't a 24-hour facility. We don't hold slots for emergencies; call as early as you can, and we'll tell you honestly when the next opening is.

Questions about emergencies

Do I need to be a patient?

No. Call us and tell us what's happening.

Are you open after hours?

No. Our hours are on the contact page. Outside them, call 911 or go to an emergency room.

Will I know what it costs first?

Yes. You'll have the estimate in writing before treatment, even in an emergency.
